چکیده

Persistent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection often leads to the development of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to estimate the oxidant/antioxidant status and liver function tests in different stages of HBV infection to investigate the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases. The study was carried out on 150 control healthy persons (C) and 320 patients with HBV infection which included normal carriers (N), acute (A), chronic (CH), cirrhosis (Cl) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The study focused on the determination of malondialdehyde (MDA), non enzymatic and enzymatic antioxidant parameters and liver function profile tests. The results showed that MDA and glutathione reductase (GSR) were increased, while reduced glutathione (GSH), total glutathione s-transferase (GST), total glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD) were decreased in N, A, CH, CI and HCC groups as compared to the C group. Also, the levels of total protein (TP) and albumin were decreased but alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities and total bilirubin (TB) level were increased in all studied groups as compared to the C group. This indicates that HBV induced oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation LPO, liver injury and cell death. We concluded that the determination of antioxidant system, oxidative stress and liver function tests may be considered as accurate biomarkers for determining the progression of HBV infection. Also treatment with antioxidant supplementation is very important in case of HBV infection. [Nadia Z. Shaban, Halima H. Salem, Mohamed A. Elsadany , Bahy A. Ali, Ehab M Hassona and Fayed A. K. بررسی شیوع و تعیین ژنوتایپ ویروس هپاتیت دلتا در بیماران HBs Ag مثبت مراجعه‌کننده به کلینیک تخصصی بعثت کرمان طی سال‌های 92-1391

Introduction: Hepatitis D virus (HDV) is a 35 nm in diameter agent that depends on hepatitis B surface antigen in order to proliferate and accumulate. Infection with delta agent can occur spontaneously with hepatitis B virus infection and it cause acute hepatitis or develop as secondary infection in the patients with hepatitis B. Hepatitis D virus (HDV) has several genotypes based on genome seq...

Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Patients with Blood Disorders: A Concise Review in Pediatric Study

Childhood Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes both medical and public health challenges. Infants who acquire HBV parentally have up to 90% risk of developing chronic HBV infection. It is now estimated that approximately 10% of worldwide cancers are attributable to viral infection, with the vast majority (>85 %) occurring in the developing world. In this distribution, elevated rate and prev...

CHARACTERISTICS AND PREVALENCE OF OCCULT HEPATITIS B VIRUS INFECTION IN PATIENTS WITH HEPATITIS C IN IRAN

ABSTRACT Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients who lack detectable hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is called occult hepatitis B infection. Such infections have been frequently identified in patients with chronic hepatitis Cliver disease, but their prevalence is not known. Methods: 207 patients with chronic hepatitis C who were HCV -RNA and antiHCV positive were stu...

Antiviral Profile of Brown and Red Seaweed Polysaccharides Against Hepatitis C Virus

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has infected 3% of the population worldwide and 20% of the population in Egypt. HCV infection can lead to hepatocellular carcinoma and death. The presently available treatment with interferon plus ribavirin, has limited benefits due to adverse side effects. Seaweeds have become a major source of new compounds to treat viral diseases. This work aimed to study the effect o...
